THE BOND OF SISTERS

The text said “what airport do you use”? What? It was from my sissy. She was coming out for my 65th birthday. It was what I wanted the most. Kev and I picked her up Friday night at 11:00 pm. Sometimes, there are no words for JOY. The next day was planned for shopping because my sissy is my personal stylist! As we weaved in and out of the clothes I became overwhelmed. I told her I had had enough but she said “ we can do this..don’t give up”. As the older sister, I was always protecting her, making sure she would be ok. But this time, it was my sissy who has been there for me, especially with all my recent health issues. And like she promised, we did get through the piles of clothes and found some that I did purchase. Later that night she was with us as we worshipped at our church. The comfort of having her with us brought me such peace. But, it was the next morning that really depicted our bond…our happy dance. We may be over 60+ but we have never lost our child like JOY like our happy dance. It’s spontaneous. We boggy to made up songs, sing like were rock stars and then go about making breakfast. Very few people have seen such jubilance but if you had it would make you burst out with laughter. Later that morning Kev drove us to Prescott where we enjoyed great food, a beer, and then off for a hike. The first trail was a steep incline. As I started up I realized that for the first time I couldn’t do it. My heart couldn’t handle it. Both Kev and Judi quickly came down as the realization of my health became evident. But, both Kev and Judi found a different path that I could go on and what a beautiful hike it was! It’s times like these that I am so grateful for my sissy. We share our joys, our sorrows, our fears, our heart for Jesus and our family, AND our love of black licorice! This sister bond is truly a gift from God. We still have another fun-filled day but for this moment I celebrate these moments together, the moments we’ve had, and the moments to come. The future for both of us is unknown but I know that through it all we will be there for each other…just like we have since we were first called sisters. I love you sissy….
