50+YEARS LATER
Finally. After two years of delay due to covid, we were reunited for our 50th anniversary as friends..true, eternal, forever friends. I had made special pink sweatshirts for our 50th anniversary and this weekend we were able to wear them. As the sun set in Del Mar we looked out to the sea, a place we each called home. We met in Jr. High through different friends and continued our friendship at Patrick Henry High School. We met Jesus there. After graduation we all went on a most memorable trip up the coast to Santa Cruz. We all worked at different food places so we brought food from the dairy, deli, chicken, and diner ( Froster Freeze for those who can remember going there!). It was on that trip that our friendship was solidified. Afterwards , we all went on different paths; college, marriage, divorce, and then most joyously…grandchildren. So much of life had happened by the time we had reconnected. But it was this reunion that we all agreed was the best. Like so many others, Covid had robbed celebrations that could never be as it was originally planned. But, Jesus made this one better. The timeshare we stayed at was in Del Mar overlooking the ocean. The weather was perfect. Going to bed the windows would be open with the smell of sea air and hearing the ocean crash on the sand all night long. We would wake up to the sound of sea gulls and watch the sun shine on the whitecaps of the ocean. A few rabbits would join us for our early morning cup of coffee. Kimmer had a spread of every delight for us to eat throughout the weekend. Laughter could be heard in the Jacuzzi until they politely had to ask us to leave. One of our favorite times was sitting around the dining room table, coloring and answering the 60 questions Kimmer had written up! As only friends of 50 years could do, we laid bare our hearts, tears, joys, and prayers to be forever sealed up until we meet again. As I sit in my new room, writing this blog, I can say “ my soul has been filled and restored”, thanks to this trip. After the diagnosis of my heart I had my “ bucket list” and this was the last one to cross off. It was as if the last chapter of my book was finished and I had finally closed it.. But, as my husband said tonight, “ it”s time to start a new book”. For those of you who are starting a new chapter, wether it is one of JOY or trials, I pray that you too will have Jesus with you throughout the journey because only He can lead you on the path of true peace. Thank you Jesus for these true and faithful friends of 50 years..my joy runneth over..until our next sunset together . Love you Mares, Kath, Kimmer.
