AGAINST ALL ODDS
After 22 days the miracle happened. Queen Quail’s eggs hatched sometime in the middle of the night. Except four of them. Two had just come out of their shells. Another one had dropped out of the nest and did not survive. And then this one. She was just laying on the bricks, alone, and did not look alive. I called out to Kev to get a napkin so we could bury her. But Kev said to wait…and so we did. After a short time I saw her lift her head and shake. I began to pray; Jesus, against all odds, will you save this one? I think she wants to live but needs help, the help that only you can give.” I stayed there with her…just in case. With all her strength she started to flap her wings, move her wee little body and then she JUMPED! I had anticipated she might so I had the nest, with the other two babies, ready for her. But she was NOT content to just stay in the nest. She was ready to fly…to start her new life, even without her mama. She climbed over the other two babies so I quickly took the nest over to our big bush and then she JUMPED again! Over the siblings, and onto the ground. Off she went under the bushes. And just like that she was gone. Unlike her siblings. They are still in the nest, complacent, unwilling to jump out and see what a wonderful life God has for them. As I sat there watching the babies it hit me. Sometimes making the JUMP into a new carreer or job, a new relationship, a new cancer treatment, a new location…things can be scary so it’s easier just to stay in the nest, to feel like your safe there…even if your surrounded with empty shells of those that have gone before you. Oh maybe its about Jesus. Maybe trusting him is too much of a risk…asking too much of the life you know…even if it’s not really what you want. Kev and I named this fella, which we believe is a girl, Finney. It’s an Irish name of the one person who survived the great flood in Ireland…against all odds. Who do you want to be? The siblings still in the nest or our little gal Finney? She took the jump and is now living her life…I believe with Jesus. We know there is no guarantee how long her life will be but we do know one thing…she IS living, against all odds, she IS living.. How about YOU? Jesus is there, ready for you to take the leap, and start living the life HE had always planned for you. Gods speed Finney…Gods speed.
