CELEBRATING OUR 30TH ANNIVERSARY

April 1st, also known as April Fools Day. It was the day Kev and I got married in La Jolla, Ca. This weekend we went back for our 30th anniversary. It starts with an upgrade at the La Jolla Suites where our balcony overlooked the cove. We walked down to the park, bringing with us our picnic snacks and watched the seals play, the seagulls fly back and forth, the pelicans diving for fish, and listen to the crashing of the waves. We ate a leisurely early dinner at the Brockton Villa and walked back to the sounds of everything I call “happy”. The next morning we went to the “Del” in Coronado and walked the beach. The smell of the sea air, the sand going in between your toes…its heaven. But the best was yet to come. Our friends. We met them at one of the most beautiful spots in Coronado called Peohe’s Restaurant. It overlooks the harbor with all the sailboats, military ships, and the San Diego skyline. These are some of our best friends that we have done life with for over 50+ years…and saying goodbye is always the hardest part of our trip. And if it couldn’t get any better we had our anniversary dinner at the Marine Room. This is one of the best restaurants in La Jolla and maybe anywhere in California! It requires formal attire, which, for those who know us, was a feat in itself to find the right look! When we were called to our table we felt like royalty. They took us to the best table that overlooked the ocean ( the restaurant is built right over the ocean so that the tide comes right up to the windows). Even the menu was specially written saying “ Happy 30th anniversary”. With complementary champagne and dessert, a delicious fish meal, we were overflowing with JOY and gratitude. We left with a breakfast in Shelter Island before heading back to AZ. When we looked back at our last 30 years , we are reminded of why we have lasted this long….Jesus. We were an unlikely couple, Kev as an outdoorsman that included some serious mountain climbing, and me a beach “ babe” as he often calls me, with a college degree from, where else, U.C. Santa Barbara! Jesus brought us together on a blind date and we’ve been together ever since. But, as anyone knows who’s been married for any length of time, it is NOT easy. It is a daily choice-will I choose Jesus first in my marriage or myself? This incredible weekend ( special thanks to our son who watched for us our baby girl Miley!) reminded both of us that choosing Jesus everyday ( well, we try!) brings an overflowing sense of JOY that can’t be found anywhere else in this world. Thank you babe for these 30+ years! Through it all I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through this life with-love you always, your beach babe.
