IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK LIKE CHRISTMAS

It hardly seems like Thanksgiving came when it was time to start the Christmas celebration. As tradition would have it, Kev and Jake would put up the outside lights while the turkey was cooking away. I had already decorated the inside of our newly renovated home . With the stockings hung over a crackling fire, the red and white tea lights flickering, the Christmas angel holding the Christmas star, and the manger scene in the center of the room with baby Jesus in the trough, what could be more perfect? The Christmas cookies of course. And so the baking begins. The kitchen smelled of pumpkin, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, ginger and sweet peppermint all weekend. At last the gingerbread men are baked and Kev finishes dressing them all up. Even the Christmas gifts have been bought and wrapped. But as everyone knows, the outside appearance of Christmas is not what it’s all about. And for many this year it could not be any truer. Those who have been impacted from hurricane Helene and other natural disasters are just praying for a warm place to sleep and a hot meal to eat. But, these are not the only ones. It is the silent ones that are also struggling this Christmas season. It’s the senior next door to you who has no family and could just use a friendly smile and conversation. It’s the family of four who’s biggest worry is food and how to keep the lights on…much less Christmas presents. It’s the widow who will be spending this holiday alone for the first time. It’s the single mom who’s working three jobs and could use some help with her kids. Many of us don’t have a lot of money but we do have time, resources, and other people who can help those who quietly go through the holidays with sadness, anxieties, and a loss of hope. Do YOU know anyone that maybe you could help this holiday? When I think about Christmas it’s really not about the decorations…it’s about Jesus. He came as a baby but grew up to be our Savior. He showed us how we can love and care for others..not just during the holidays but all year round. I pray as you and your family prepare for this Christmas you will include Jesus, if you do not know him, and if you do, reach out to bring JOY and HOPE with the heart of the Father. Happy December 1st everyone!
