LIKE FATHER LIKE SON

FATHERS DAY 2022

Mocha latte cake and homemade crab and shrimp raviolis. How difficult could that be? Add to it a severe reaction to the Covid booster I had to get. All in all I would say it was “ a weekend to remember”. But not for all of that I just mentioned. We were able to share Fathers Day with my dad in VA., my sissy and her family. Jake had designed a Tshirt for both my dad and Kev of the Peruvian mountain range with the saying “ I lift my eyes to the hills ..where does my help come from ? Ps. 121:1-2). It was so good to be able to talk with our dad and celebrate with them all. Afterwards Jake started to share about his new adventures living on his own for the first time. He just couldn’t believe the price of gas, food, furniture, and all the necessities for a new apartment! We all started to laugh as Jake shared how he’s keeping his room “ immaculate “ now when he couldn’t seem to do that when he was living with us! The two of them continued their conversation about politics, girls (and the lack of it at the moment!), church, and well, just being men. As I listened to them both I began to see “ like father, like son”. Although they are very different in traits, Jake has taken on the heart of an adventurer, a sense of responsibility for his future with the leading of God, and the love and protection of family. Sound familiar ? While Jesus was here on earth He too reflected His Father in heaven…one of love, truth, compassion, forgiveness, justice, power, and, most importantly, sacrifice for us. This weekend baseball player Darryl Strawberry spoke at our church, CCV . He spoke about how Jesus really did save him. He had it all but in the end he had nothing. His wife Stacey pulled him out of the pit and brought him to the Savior. For some , Fathers Day is never really a day to be celebrated, but rather to be forgotten. It’s not until you really encounter the living God through Jesus that you can find love, real, unconditional love, from our true heavenly Father. Like Father, like Son… May you find this Fathers Day His love for you through His Son Jesus.
