THE ALMOST FORGOTTEN
“Please Lord. Give me favor. I pray for unexpected money this day so that I might be able to give to the almost forgotten. In Jesus name, Amen”. I packed in the chairs for the kitchen addition I had hoped for. The decision was made that we were not going to be able to afford it. I dropped them off at the Goodwill. Before driving away I opened our mail. And there it was. A check, a small check , but it was there! It might be enough to get some of the items for the desk cabinet. It was a piece of furniture that had been in the lobby for a long time but had been forgotten. I recently saw it and opened it up. It was dirty and dusty. I cleaned it up and saw the beauty that had been neglected for a long time. It needed some items in it so that it would be seen again like it was meant to be. While at the goodwill I found some of these special items. They would be in there during the different seasons coming up. Joy would once again rise up with gleeful delight. While in the check stand I shared my story with the clerk for these items. She came around and hugged me with tears in her eyes. The total? $5.00! I knew it cost more than that but it was her way of thanking me for remembering the almost forgotten. You see, it wasn’t just for a wooden desk cabinet. It was for the residents who live there. Some of them have families who come to see them but the majority of them…well, this IS their home. We are their ONLY family. God has put it on my heart to bring JOY back to these almost forgotten people because He loves them…He loves them very much. For some it’s getting closer to their end and they may not know Jesus. And so God continues to give me favor so that those He loves will remember Him, and maybe come back to Him..The staff also needs to see Jesus because they can get weary and sometimes lose their purpose. The road they have been chosen for is a difficult journey, filled with unsurmountable challenges, sleepless nights, and sometimes a sense of hopelessness. Just like this desk cabinet. It was always there but had been forgotten. It grew dim, dusty, and lost its shine. Then, one day, someone opened the cabinet and found its beauty once again. It was time to share it with everyone….to put back the pieces that had been missing. Jesus. Do you sometimes feel forgotten? Have no purpose? Just doing the same thing every day with no real joy? Or maybe you are that person who’s chosen path has now become so heavy that you feel like giving up? Whichever question you relate to the answer is the same: Jesus. He cares for the lost, the forgotten, the hand who gives. Lean on Him and He will light up your path once again.
