THE MOVE
The alarm goes off at 5:00 am on Saturday. Breakfast eaten, sandwiches made, drinks in cooler, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies bagged and it was time. The moving truck was parked right by the apartment. Kev helped bring up my cleaning supplies. “Good morning guys!", I shouted. Jake had already been putting things into the van but where is Nick? He was sick, really sick. He had been suffering with a fever throughout the week, along with congestion. But, just like Nick, he kept going. You see, that is how Nick was raised. He would work no matter his health, the weather, the sacrifice…and since Jake also had that work ethic, it only made sense they would be roommates for a second time. And so it began. With three flights of stairs to move the furniture into the van and three flights of stairs to move into the new apartment, they pressed on. As hard as they both worked, I have to say, it was Kev that I was most impressed with. At 70 years old, the stud muffin he is, he kept them both moving! My job was to clean the former apartment and organize the kitchen and Jakes closet when we got to the new apartment ( believe me I worked up a sweat too!) After seven hours it was finally time to go home for Kev and me. Fortunately, their new place is only a few minutes from us! We’re going to invite them to play pickle ball but something tells me they will conveniently have other engagements! Friends since fifth grade, it’s another new chapter in their lives..new digs, new jobs, new dreams. As Clarence the angel from “ It’s a wonderful life” said, “ Remember, no man is a failure who has friends”. With ice packs, Advil, and a long nap, Kev and I are ready for the next adventure…but as Nick said and I quote “next time I’m PAYING for a company to move us! Amen to that. Our prayer for the two of you; may God give you favor, blessings, JOY, laughter, and answered prayers. And when times get tough, remember Jesus is right there, as he always has been, and he will never leave you or forsake you because he loves you…and so do we.
