MY SISSY AND CANCER
It was the weekend after my birthday when she came out. Her biopsy was the day before. She would know when she got back. It was one of the most special times with my sissy. We knew everything was going to change when she went back home, but for this time we were going to have FUN..and fun we did. I booked massages, took her to a special lake for a picnic, let her go shopping for me, worshipped together with Kev at our church, celebrated with Jake and Nick with an awesome meal, and did what we do best….LAUGH. There were also moments of hard talks that brought tears..and more tears..(PAUSE as I cry just a little bit more) It was time for her to leave. We prayed and then hugged, and hugged, and hugged. This was one of the most difficult times to let her go. After being her big sister for 65 years, how could I not be there with her? A few days later she called: it was breast cancer. Silence. I took a deep breath. The truth is their now. It was time to face it and fight this battle like so many have done. The good news was that they caught it so early that she was only in stage 1, and it had not spread. It would be a lumpectomy procedure with only radiation and not chemo. A few days ago she had the procedure and came through with flying colors. With the support of her family and so many friends, she is now on the road to recovery. And what better way to celebrate than with wine and truffles!!!! ( courtesy of her sissy!!) She also has changed real estate companies, planned an amazing beach vacation with her family, a romantic getaway with her hubby, and will finish her last day of radiation, cancer free. 2023 may have started out tough but with the Lords help, she will once again be able to sing shouts of JOY. I have always been so proud of Judi but I have to say she has shown so many of us her courage, faith in God, and her perseverance in the midst of some truly dark days in the past few months. There will be days that bring some tears through all of her changes, but through it all, she will be victorious in the Lord. I love you sissy.
